What do we need to get married?

• Set a date, time and place for your wedding
• Purchase a marriage licence
• Must have 2 witnesses who are over the age of 18

What is required to purchase a marriage licence?

• Proof of identification
• If either have been married previously, a certificate of divorce
• Couple must go together to purchase the licence
• Blood tests are no longer required
• Licence is valid for 3 months from the date of issue
• Do not need to be an Alberta resident to be married in Alberta
• There is no waiting period, you can purchase your licence and have your ceremony the same day

Where can we hold the wedding ceremony?

• There are no restrictions on where your ceremony can be held, so a park, hotel, hall, your home, my home, your friends home are only a few suggestions
• An Alberta Marriage licence is valid anywhere in Alberta

Do we need wedding rings to get married?

• Wedding rings are traditional but are not required

Can we write our own vows/ceremony?

• ABSOLUTELY! This is your wedding, I encourage you to customize your wedding so your day is everything you dreamed it would be

We have children, can they be part of our ceremony?

• You are getting married not only as a couple but also as a family, you may include your children however you wish
