What do we need to get married?
Set a date, time and place for your wedding
Purchase a marriage licence
Must have 2 witnesses who are over the age of 18

What is required to purchase a marriage licence?
Proof of identification
If either have been married previously, a certificate of divorce
Couple must go together to purchase the licence
Blood tests are no longer required
Licence is valid for 3 months from the date of issue
Do not need to be an Alberta resident to be married in Alberta
There is no waiting period, you can purchase your licence and have your ceremony the same day

Where can we hold the wedding ceremony?
There are no restrictions on where your ceremony can be held, so a park, hotel, hall, your home, my home, your friends home are only a few suggestions
An Alberta Marriage licence is valid anywhere in Alberta

Do we need wedding rings to get married?
Wedding rings are traditional but are not required

Can we write our own vows/ceremony?
ABSOLUTELY! This is your wedding, I encourage you to customize your wedding so your day is everything you dreamed it would be

We have children, can they be part of our ceremony?
You are getting married not only as a couple but also as a family, you may include your children however you wish
